This creature came to find him and bring him home (she is no demon either, and in fact another fairy creature). Though the details are hazy, those bone blades in the image above were jammed inside him, by some agent of the woman he loved, done so to stop him. Though they were killing him, he seemed not to be able to sense them until the little creature told him. I don't think I'll forget seeing this great monster pulling impossibly long blades made out of his own bones out of his chest, howling like mad. Don't worry, he is grateful to her, the pins gone he seemed to heal, and it did work out in the end, the two of them going back to where they belong together.
